Things
to note when using trains:
1) Check
that the correct number of
passengers, indicated on the top
right of your ticket, date of
travel and destinationare all
correct before leaving the ticket
window. Stamp your
ticket in the yellow machine on
the platform to validate
2) Double
check the platform (bin no:) that
the train should be arriving on.
The arrival and deprture sheets (in
the station and on the platforms)
are usually quite accurate but
occassionally the train will
arrive/depart from a near by
platform, keep an eye on the
black indicator boards to be sure.
3) There are
3 Florence stations and the Inter-city
(IC) change direct from Pisa is
at Florence Rifredi station
outside of the city, the central
station is SMN (Santa Maria
Novina) if you are using a
regional train or stopping over.
4) There is
an hour wait, without a waiting
room, at Florence Rifredi station
for the inter city train.
5) Do not
board a train without a ticket.
6) If in
doubt ask, most people are
willing to help and are generally
very friendly.
7) The
trains do run on time, with very
few exceptions.
8) The
trains are fine, but if catching
a plane, perhaps going the day
before and sight-seeing in Pisa,
Florence or Rome before flying
the next day is probably
advisable, as delays and strikes
do sometimes happen.
Car
Hire:
1) Is always
cheaper when done on line, and
you will usually be served faster
when you arrive at the airport.
2) It is
worth paying for all the
insurances and unlimited milage.
3) Avis,
Europcar and Hertz are all near
Chiusi so you do not need to
drive out of Rome or Pisa, take
the train and collect your car 10
minutes away. Use the web button
links below to book your car on
line.
4) Remember
Car Hire shops close for lunch
from 12 until 3pm, although they
are usually manned at the
airports, so if you intend
arriving during lunch let them
know so arrangements can be made
and you are not left drinking
coffee for a couple of hours.
